The Capture (Guardians of Ga'Hoole #1)

Author: Kathryn Lasky
Characters: Digger, Soren, Marella, Gylfie, Twilight
Genre: Fantasy and Adventure
My Rating: 3/5

Soren is a young owl who was pushed by his elder brother from his nest and was abducted by the "bad" owls. He meets Gylfie in St. Aggies school for orphan which actually was a training center where the young owls were brainwashed and trained for war. Gylfie and Soren work together and try to escape from a deep pit without knowing how to fly...

When I saw the cover and read the summary I thought this is a children's book and its gonna be kinda silly. Still I bought it for my baby sister, thinking she will love it. I started reading the book just to get an idea what the story is all about and in 2 hours I completed the book. It's an extremely easy read and even though it's childish still it keeps you hooked. As a reader I was so fascinated by the owls and the struggle of Soren and Gylfie I just couldn't stop reading without knowing how will it end.

Stolen: A Letter to my captor

Author: Lucy Christopher
Characters: Gemma Toombs and Ty MacFarlane
Genre: Young Adult, Realistic Fiction
My rating: 5/5

This novel is mind blowing. One of the best novels I have ever read. The plot itself is Genius but it's the background and the set up that stays in your head forever. Even today I wish I could see the red desert and the starts that Gemma saw. Every time I break an Aloe Vera leaf and it bleeds it reminds me of Gemma under the hills...

Gemma is a teenager who meets Ty in an airport. He is this sturdy and charming-in-a-vulnerable way guy who buys coffee for her making her feel adult-ish. After drinking coffee with him she starts feeling woozy and before she knows she is on a bed in a house in the middle of Australian desert!

Ty never hurts her or molests her but he loves her. He had seen her and stalked her ever since she was a kid and has fallen head over heels for her....

Ty can be artistic, sweet and kind - a perfect guy and he can be cruel guy with a quick temper within seconds. So you kinda like him even though you know you are not supposed to. In short you start experiencing the same feelings as Gemma. You start thinking of what you would have done if you were in Gemma's place. You want to love Ty and comfort him but he did kidnap you, not easy to forget. He can kill you and nobody would know.

This is when Stockholm Syndrome comes into play. Stockholm syndrome is a psychological phenomenon in which the captors either start feeling sympathy or even love for their captor in the hop that the captor would return those feelings and not hurt them. Gemma and the readers go through the same thing. We start understanding Ty, expecting him to be the one. I remember thinking in the end that if only Ty hadn't kidnapped Gemma but would have asked her on a date like a normal guy they would have been perfect for each other but now when I think about it I am not that sure. Ty was always broken, he would have never been able to sustain their relationship. Maybe he would have gotten overprotective, maybe would have hit her but they just couldn't have a happily ever after...

The reason I fell in love with this book is because it challenged me. It wasn't predictable and yet everyone knows how will it end. It' one book you never want to end and something that will stay with you forever...

A Game of Thrones (A song of Ice and Fire #1)

Author: George R. R. Martin
Genres: Fantasy, Epic, Adventure, Adult.

If you like happy endings and stories of justice and chivalry and Prince Charming then this is not a book for you. In Seven Kingdoms Honor is a flaw and Betrayal is the key to survival. It's ruled by Lords who indulge in Incest, murders, rape, sorcery and the honest men are silenced by the "Tears of Lys".

Seventeen years ago when Kingslayer (Jaime Lannister) killed Aerys Targaryen, Robert Baratheon became the king of Seven Kingdoms and married Cersei Lannister. When Robert dies the kingdom divides and falls apart. After thousand years there is a King of the North, both of the King's brother have coronations defying Robert's first born child as he is an abomination - a result of incest between Cersei and her twin Jaime.

While the kingdom is burning from the wars between the four kings, beyond the walls Wildlings are rising and after thousands of years the dead are walking again.

Far away in the free cities, Daenerys Targaryen has married a Dothraki with 40, 000 men in his army but are they enough for her to take back her Iron Throne?

There are 864 pages in the book and every page is perfection. When I read A Game of Thrones I don't feel like I am reading a story. Even though people live in castles and there are dragons and the kings are fighting still the character are so real, plot so interesting and the way supernatural elements have been casually mixed with the plotting and the scheming - amazing. You don't feel like you are reading a novel, it's like everyday you are opening a newspaper and you are updated about what's happening in some alternate universe. Ned Stark is the new Hand. Robert Baratheon is dead. Oh, there are dragons in the world!

Varys' little birds and whisperers and Tyrion wit, they become a part of you. You say "Winter is coming" and you can actually feel goosebumps. Slowly and steadily, the characters becomes your acquaintances and you keep on wondering who dies next or who else is gonna crown themselves king.

A Game of Thrones is not only a book it's literally a world trapped in the pages. It's long, it's page after page of tragedy but there is no way in hell you should miss this series. A song of Ice and Fire is a very long series and there is a possibility that George R R Martin may die before he finishes it but it's a must must must read.
